My Map

Trying to sleep.

No luck.

Those pesky thoughts of things gone by

keep swirling In my mind.

Some are good, but many are bad.

How to stop them taking command.

They are uninvited guests for sure.

But …

do I have this all wrong?

Maybe they’re nothing to fear.

Just a map of my life so far

showing me where I’ve been

and where I need to be.

Chill

“Life is the dancer and you are the dance.” ~ Eckhart Tolle

Just relax. Nothing ever gets done in a good way by being stressed. Breathe deeply, let your thoughts go. Things aren’t all bad in your life. There is much good; open your eyes and see it.

Everything doesn’t have to go your way. Have no resistance; learn to flow. So much is missed when we are uptight, and life just goes by. Stay with the present moment, and don’t let the past or future take you over.

We all have obstacles in our life. Some days are good to us, and some are horrible. The secret is to not let those hard times take over and define our life.

It takes practice and patience, but learn to chill. You’ll be happier for it.

“Those who flow as life flows know they need no other force.” ~ Lao Tzu

Keep Evil at Bay

bird

“All that is necessary for evil to succeed is that good men do nothing.” ~ Edmund Burke

Evil lurks deep into the crevices of all societies. The world has always had people who do evil. These people are very clever in recruiting others to join their missions and cults. Evil can wear many faces and appear innocent at first. Don’t allow yourself to get mislead and end up in a hideous plan. Check your thinking.

Don’t fear those that seem different, or fear what you don’t understand. Educate yourself, and become enlightened. Don’t get caught up blaming and hating others for how your life has turned out. Do something positive with your life. Get out of your head, and learn to think outside the box.

Draw on the love that is deep inside. It’s there; we all have it. Listen to your Spirit. Accept all beings. All of us have a right to be.

“No human race is superior; no religious faith is inferior. All collective judgments are wrong. Only racists make them.”

~ Elie Wiesel

It is vitally important that we all check our thinking. Collective negative thinking can make for a dangerous world. We don’t want to repeat our past mistakes, or start up new ones.

“With our thoughts we make the world.” ~ Buddha

The world we live in can become so much more and we have the power to make it so. All it takes is kindness and love.

“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.” ~ Anne Frank

Stay positive. Choose love over hate. Be there for your family, friends and neighbors. Maybe, just maybe, if we all do this we can protect our beautiful blue planet and keep evil at bay.

“Know mankind well, don’t degrade every man as evil, and don’t exalt every man thinking he is good. He who cannot discover himself cannot discover the world.” ~ Rumi

Use your power.

Clear the Cache of Your Mind

“Know that the only important house to clean is your mind.”
~ Byron Katie

Just like our computers we need to occasionally clear our cache memory of hidden thoughts that can make us unhappy. We all store our thoughts in this cache and it makes it convenient for our egos to grab them fast putting us in worry unhappy mode. Sometimes we’re going about our day just fine when all of a sudden we see or hear something that makes those thoughts pop out seemingly out of nowhere. And sometimes thought gremlins visit us at night when we are supposed to be sleeping. If this happens too often then it’s a sign we need to clear our mind’s cache.

There are many ways to clear your mind. Try expressing your thoughts by writing or drawing. Talk with a trusted friend. Some people love to run, or swim. I like yoga and mindful meditation, and of course, writing. The key is to find what works for you. And the key is to become aware of your feelings before those feelings become aware of you. Letting your cache get clogged up will make you miserable.

The world we live in is an upside down place with many challenges, and that makes it super important that we take good care of ourselves. You, my beautiful humans, are unique. There is no one on earth like you, and when you’re gone no one will ever be able to replace you. Please take good care of your wonderful precious mind and live your life free and happy even if sometimes like me, you are slipping and sliding along your journey.

“The mind is like water. When it’s turbulent, it’s difficult to see. When it’s calm, everything becomes clear.” ~ Prasad Mahes

Rewire Yourself

“You must learn a new way to think before you can master a new way to be.” ~ Marianne Williamson

We come into this world prewired and that wiring gets shaped by our family and the outside world. This is all good when our wiring is mostly positive, but when our wiring is pretty much negative… that’s not so good.

The good news is we can rewire our brains by how we choose to think. We are who we are, but if there are things we want to change about ourselves such as being happier, kinder, compassionate, and patient beings we can do that. It all just takes willingness and a lot of practicing in order to make rewiring possible. There are therapists, books, articles etc. out there to help along the way.

A good start is simply learning to be more mindful. Don’t be too hard on yourself when you slip back into your old ways. I do that more than I like to admit. I don’t like it when I slip back, but I remind myself that it’s my default wiring kicking in. Recognizing slipping back shows rewiring is developing and that’s good because you’re getting somewhere, and that’s what it’s all about.

Anything is possible if you really want it.

“Neurons that fire together wire together. You can rewire your brain for higher consciousness by focusing on love.” ~ Deepak Chopra

Invite the Light In

Close your eyes and breathe in.

Relax those shoulders as you breathe right out.

Let those crazy thoughts fly in and out, but don’t attach yourself as they soar in–just let them be.

Invite the light into your soul by concentrating on happy thoughts even if they were very long ago.

Come on, let a giggle slip in and become unburden as hopefully you once were when you were little and carefree.

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

Invite the light in chasing the darkness out.

“Turn your face to the sun and the shadows fall behind you.”

~ Maori proverb

Truly Real

“If my heart could do the thinking, would my brain begin to feel?” ~ Van Morrison

I think sometimes we all make the mistake of thinking with our heads too much and not enough with our hearts. We analyze situations over and over until they don’t make sense anymore. We put too much energy in trying to figure out why someone did this or that to us, and we play the blame game constantly where there are never any winners.

If we could clear our minds and start thinking with our hearts can you imagine how wonderful and fresh the world would be? We wouldn’t be looking for problems to appear around every corner. We wouldn’t be in conflict with anyone, we would just be in bliss and flowing with life. Such balance would be ours for evermore.

This all sounds like a fairy tale. How could this be in a world so complicated that at times you just can’t see. Call me an optimist, but I believe with hard work and determination we can all change the way we think and feel. We can train our brains to use that compassion from our hearts and they can work together bringing us a peaceful, happy life, that is filled with love instead of fear and hate.

What is truly real? The darkness your mind is showing you, or the love you want to feel? What if you went with your heart this time instead of giving in to the conflict your head wants you to explore. Choose wisely my friend, for your happiness on this journey may very well depend.
