Moods

mail 2

Moods can be good and they can be super bad. We all get into funky bad moods from time to time, but the important thing is to get ourselves out as quickly as possible. Life is stressful at times and we can end up going down a dark rabbit hole if we are not careful. When I saw this quote by Eckhart Tolle I thought, yes, this is what I need to do to get out of a mood that really isn’t me and one I’ve been entertaining for a few days too many.

I know from experience that practicing gratitude, and thinking about all the good that is already in your life does bring about abundance at least in the way you feel about yourself and your life. So does getting in touch with nature. It’s the sweet little things in life that bring us the most joy, but most of the time we are too busy chasing our tails to notice.

Try squishing your toes in the wet sand and feel carefree. The beach always does it for me, but if that’s not possible, go outside when it’s dark and look up at the sky letting the stars fill your eyes. Everything seems so small and petty when you look up at the night sky. Play with water in the ocean, pool, and even in the sink and let it delight you. There is something about water that does it for me. Smell the flowers in the garden and become renewed. And if you can, get into a car with a convertible top, and put that sucker down letting your hair blow wherever as you drive. All of this and so much more can remind you that yes, you are alive, and should be enjoying every second of your life. Well, maybe not every second, but most of your time on this earth.

Don’t let life get you down. Focus, be mindful, and spend more time loving being alive than in a funky bad mood.

Full of Life

As I watch a hummingbird fly quickly into sight, and listen to its wings beating, buzzing, like a tiny helicopter as it hovers nearby, I remember the long hard winter so many of them had and wonder if my feeders helped to get this one where she’s at. A big hurry for such a little bird, but sustaining life for its babies tucked nearby in a nest, and for its very existence is what its life is all about. The hummingbird and all of nature instinctively knows how to live life. They know what to do and how to do it. Can we humans say the same?

Spring is bursting with life right in our own backyards, and soon summer’s sun rays will be shining, and life in the wild will be in full bloom. All the creatures are busy and fully engaged in the life they’ve been given. Are we?

Do the creatures in the wild have a secret to living life? They don’t appear to take time, or even have time to fret, fear, or hate. They’re all living in the present and don’t seem to know of past or future. How wonderful to be so mindful. Can’t we?

Just because we are humans shouldn’t mean that we can’t be fully engaged in the life we’ve been given. It may mean we have to shed some of our old ways, but how freeing and light we will be.

Take a deep breath and then let it out slowly, feeling free and light as a feather. Feel the warm sun on your neck. Did you smell the clean air? The flowers? Now, don’t you feel like a bird who wants to take flight, soaring above the clouds?

Nature is full of life and we humans should be too. The secret to life is just letting yourself live your life to the fullest, but that really isn’t a secret. Sometimes it’s just forgotten as we think everything in life is a struggle. Shed your old ways and be committed to living your life.

Live by Your Spirit

This week's present moment reminder.

When you live by your ego you are always in a battle to be right, and how tiring and miserable that must be. Try living by your Spirit and see how happy you can be.

Life doesn’t have to be a struggle of who is right and who is wrong. Let go of having to be the winner and enjoy the simple pleasure of just being.

Slow Down

Slow down, you move too fast
You got to make the morning last
Just kicking down the cobblestones
Looking for fun and feelin’ groovy
Ba da da da da da da, feelin’ groovy

Hello, lamppost, what’cha knowin’?
I’ve come to watch your flowers growin’
Ain’t’cha got no rhymes for me?
Doot-in doo-doo, feelin’ groovy
Ba da da da da da da, feelin’ groovy

I got no deeds to do
No promises to keep
I’m dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep
Let the morning time drop all its petals on me
Life, I love you
All is groovy

~ The 59th Street Bridge Song ( Feelin’ Groovy)  Simon & Garfunkel

Learn to slow yourself down before your kids grow up and move away, and your parents become a thought that you just can’t place. There is life outside of work, bills, the disturbing nightly news, and yes, even struggles that plague you daily. And boy, this life can be really great!

Life can be great if you just let yourself slow down and enjoy the simple things. The beauty of nature right out your back door. The silly smile on your child’s face. The warm breeze that tickles the back of your neck, and maybe even the sound of silence when you take a short nap.

The point is, slow down and just be in your life instead of somewhere else. It may not seem like it now, but I can assure you it’s true, life goes by very fast and it can pass right over you. And, no matter how hard you try, you just can’t get it to come back. So, as  cliche’ as it sounds, just stop and smell the roses while you can.

The Runaway Life

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy who’ll decide where to go.”  ~ Dr.Seuss

Do you sometimes feel that your life has gotten away from you? All the plans you had when you were young did they turn out the way you had envisioned? Most of the time our lives don’t turn out the way we thought they would, but that doesn’t mean they’re not the way they are supposed to be.

As you travel along on your journey, sometimes you make a turn along the way that puts you on a path that leads to a completely different life than the one you thought you were going to have. As long as you are having a good life where you are happy and fulfilled, then the turn you took so long ago was the right choice, and was really the life you are supposed to have. But what if that turn wasn’t? Then it’s time to make some changes.

You are in charge of your life even if it doesn’t always feel that way. If you are experiencing a runaway life then stop, take a deep breath and think about what you really want. You have the power to change your life and to live it on your own terms. You just need to make up your mind on what you really want. Sure there will be some modifications from what you envisioned when you were younger, but maybe that’s a good thing.

Perhaps that turn you took so long ago gave you some grief and is still making your life miserable. Maybe there was a lesson you had to learn through your experience. Life is all about learning lessons. But, this doesn’t mean that you can’t live the life you were meant to live. Take the steps needed–whether it’s going back to school, starting a new career, or ending a relationship, and begin to get yourself back on the path where your dreams are waiting for you.

Put wings on those dreams and fly high in the sky
bumping up against clouds where angels reside and all your dreams will then come alive.
