Allow yourself to flow into the darkness of winter and feel the light within you of kindness for all. This is a time for great reflection and gratitude. May you all find peace and beauty surrounding you, and may the holidays bring you together with the people you love and hold so dear.

All You Need is Love

Just like the Beatles song all any of us really needs is love. The holidays can be a crazy time of the year filled with emotion and consumerism that can drive us all a bit wacky. While I was out shopping the other day I met two women that were talking about how rude people are this time of year. One woman made the mistake at the post office of saying Merry Christmas to the clerk who was in a bad mood and the clerk almost took her head off saying, “It’s Happy Holidays!” The second woman was a checker at the grocery store who looked stressed. I asked how her day was going and she shrugged and said that people come through her line and are busy on their phones texting and don’t even acknowledge her. And there are days when people are so nasty that she leaves her shift having to be alone and de-stress. Is this what we’ve come to?

Take a deep breath and surrender all the stress. Give some time to yourself. Maybe practice yoga and meditation. Instead of taking out your stress on others, learn to connect to people and things around you. When I surrender, good things come my way.

We are all so closed up in our safe cozy houses living in little bubbles. But think if the doors to these houses were blown away, or our houses burned down, there we would be with our neighbors we hardly know standing in a vast of nothingness. We would have to put our differences aside and connect to one another to survive. Sadly, many people this year have lost their homes and loved ones through these kinds of tragedies, and hopefully found love coming from complete strangers and caring neighbors they didn’t even know they had.

It shouldn’t take a catastrophe event to bring humans together. In the digital world we all live in we have to work harder to develop and keep real human connection alive. It doesn’t seem that long ago that our connection to one another is what made us human in the first place.

There are all kinds of love. The love for your children and grandchildren, your spouse, parents, close friends, etc. And there’s the care and affection for the people you work with, a distant friend, the neighbor you share your garden goodies with, and maybe even the checker at the grocery store. Connect with these people and you’ll find that connection will turn into love. When love is present there can’t be anger, hate, or even fear.

All the silly disagreements and getting mad that we sometimes do is just a waste of time. And time is something that is running out for all of us. Simply just loving and accepting one another can conquer so much and make living a joy.

Be the Gift

The Earth is a beautiful place, but our world can at times be cold and cruel. During this holiday season and all year-long be the gift that keeps on giving. Be the one who smiles at a stranger. Maybe that smile is perfect timing to an otherwise horrible day. What about that person in a wheelchair or scooter that is staring at the top shelf in the grocery store wondering how they will be able to reach. Can you be the helping hand even if you feel too busy?

Take someone under your wing and help them to soar. I remember once when I had started a new job and was struggling to learn and keep up, and feeling that every day was pure hell. If someone would have taken me under their wing and helped me along I’m sure I would have succeeded. Think about taking someone under your wing at work and helping them to learn the ropes. Better yet, we should teach our children to do this at school. Being a friend to the child everyone picks on, or helping the new kid find their way. Wow, loving children, no more bullies.

Be the one who says to the child, “I’m proud of you.” Doesn’t matter if you are the parent, teacher, or just the neighbor, let them know when they’ve done well. Give encouragement and praise helping them along the path so they believe they can. Let them know you have their back and care. This kind of compassion will sustain them when future dark days descend, and you know they will. A child with a box of coping tools will get through because they’ll know they’re loved and matter in this world.

Happy Holidays to you wonderful Beings, and here’s my wish for all of you:

“If I could give you any gift, I’d give you LOVE and LAUGHTER, a PEACEFUL HEART, a SPECIAL DREAM, and JOY FOREVER AFTER.”  ~ Unknown

Reflection

It’s that time again where the season is telling us to slow down and reflect on the past year. It’s a melancholy time, but can also be sweet and full of joy. Sometimes though reflection gets lost in this busy time of year, and that’s a real shame because taking the time to reflect is important for the soul to grow.

Give yourself the gift of reflection, and don’t forget to enjoy the precious moments you have with your family and friends. Hold your love ones close to your heart, and drink in the beauty that is your life because nothing lasts forever.

I wish all my WordPress friends a wonderful holiday season, and may you always have happiness and peace in your life.

All my love,

Michele

The Importance of You

This time of year is joyful for some, but sad for others. Sometimes sadness can bring dark thoughts our way, and depression can find its way in.

You, my friend, are important to me, and I bet to a lot of people. But mostly, you should be important to yourself. I don’t know you so why are you important to me? That’s easy because you are here and alive on this planet that we share, and everything that’s here has a purpose to be; just think about that and you will see.

I know about hard and sad days where you feel so alone. I know how stress can get in the way and muck up our lives. And I also have experienced feeling stupid and useless and wondering if I should care, or maybe just be done with it all. But that’s too easy and I don’t do easy and neither should you.

Sometimes we don’t realize how important we are to others and how much they would suffer if we were not here anymore. Think about all the good and even the bad times you will miss if you decided to be gone. Life is about good times and bad; laughter and sadness do go hand in hand. And you my friend shouldn’t miss even a second of it.

The importance of you and of every single one of us is greater than we will ever know. You matter—we all do, and because of that you will always be important to me. Please be important to you.

“You are not a drop in the ocean. You are the entire ocean in a drop.”

Respect

Show respect for friends and family, and everyone who passes your way. Sometimes during the holiday season we find ourselves in a manic rush to shop for presents, dinner and all kinds of stuff. We get disconnected from the who we really are and drop all kinds of niceties in favor of the holy buck.

Sometimes it’s not only during the holidays that we have no time or care, but even during the dulling times that come before and after all affairs. I know that sometimes Grandma seems to live in another world, but don’t forget there are still brains under all that gray hair and a heart of gold. She’s still the one that taught your mom her abc’s and played with you for hours on her knees. The co-workers that drive you crazy and you think are lazy still deserve your respect, as well as, your extended family that you think at times should just go to hell.

During the holiday season that for some has lost all reason, don’t forget about the sales people who I’m sure would rather be in the Caribbean, or at least some other far off dream. It doesn’t take much time to smile and say, “thank you for all you’ve done my way.”

Respect for people’s feelings is sometimes forgotten, but let’s try to reason that we all have a place in this crazy world, and giving respect to others is the very least we can do. So next time you feel rushed and drained step back, take a long deep breath, and then, continue on once again.
