Summer

“Summer is the annual permission slip to be lazy. To do nothing and have it count for something. To lie in the grass and count the stars. To sit on a branch and study the clouds.” ~ Regina Brett

What a wonderful time of the year. It’s a time for kicking back, and a time to reconnect with nature. Depending on where you live, summer may be brief so you want to make the most of it. That doesn’t really mean planning big vacations, or having ongoing summer parties. It means letting go and unwinding.

Remember when you were a kid stretched out on the cool grass looking up at the stars in wonder, or swimming by the moonlight? Unstructured time to ourselves is what we all need.

Speaking of being a kid, don’t over structure your children’s summertime. It doesn’t need to be overfilled with organized sports and places to be. At the same time, kids don’t need to be on their electronic devices all the time. It can become an obsession for them and that is never good. Kids need time to play, dream, and just be lazy—maybe watching the clouds float by. Balance is the key.

Nature gives us the gift of summer’s long days and warm nights to go exploring who we are, and to dream of what can be. It’s a valuable time for making memories, and for the soul to grow.

Go outside and take a deep breath and let yourself be part of summer.

“Summertime is always the best of what might be.” ~ Charles Bowden

Embrace Your Tears

“Don’t ever discount the wonder of your tears. They can be healing waters and a stream of joy. Sometimes they are the best words the heart can speak.”  ~ Wm. Paul Young

We can get embarrassed when we tear up in public, but maybe we shouldn’t. Tears are the way of clearing our bodies of emotion and the stress we carry around. It’s a beautiful way of cleansing and setting our bodies back into balance.

Some people think it’s a sign of weakness, but it’s really a sign of being human and caring. There are tears of joy and tears of pain, but whatever the tears don’t hold them back, let them flow.

It’s true that there are times when you can’t just break down and sob, but you can tear a little bit and maybe sob later. When I’m working with a child in bereavement and he or she starts to cry, it breaks my heart and the tears start to fill my eyes. I can’t just lose it; I have to be there for the child. So I stay in command of my tears by concentrating on helping the child and only letting a few come into my eyes. I also have to get over my embarrassment, but we tell the kids that tears are always okay and maybe seeing tears in my eyes makes that really so.

Feeling joy or pain is part of our journey and so are the tears that accompany all of that. Don’t be afraid; feel what you feel and let yourself connect to the moment and to life itself. We are all just human, so let’s be that. Be a beautiful feeling human.

What Are You Waiting For?

“Sometimes you have to stop thinking so much and just go where your heart takes you.”  ~ Unknown

“Do it now. The future is promised to no one.”  ~ Wayne Dyer

“Live the way your soul yearns to sing.”  ~ Melanie Werenczak

So, what are you waiting for? There’s no limousine coming to get you. No bus going your way. And hitchhiking will never get you where you want to go. It’s just you kid on your own. Only you can make it happen, but I know you can do it, and I think you do too.

What are you waiting for? Get going!

Invite the Light In

Close your eyes and breathe in.

Relax those shoulders as you breathe right out.

Let those crazy thoughts fly in and out, but don’t attach yourself as they soar in–just let them be.

Invite the light into your soul by concentrating on happy thoughts even if they were very long ago.

Come on, let a giggle slip in and become unburden as hopefully you once were when you were little and carefree.

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

Invite the light in chasing the darkness out.

“Turn your face to the sun and the shadows fall behind you.”

~ Maori proverb

This Life of Yours

Your life is something special. It’s a gift really that you have been given and depending on your beliefs, the who, where, and how is up to you. But what I think we can all agree on is that this life of yours is a very precious thing. Your life is wondrous when you stop and think about all that had to happen for you to be here at all. So, what are you doing with this life of yours?

“Life is a gift. Never take it for granted.”  ~ Sasha Azevedo

Are you taking yours for granted? Are you treating it well? Oftentimes, we don’t treat our lives very well. We end up battered and bruised from the inside and out. Why do we treat ourselves so bad?

“There is a candle in your heart, ready to be kindled.
There is a void in your soul, ready to be filled.
You feel it, don’t you?” ~ Rumi

Stop what you’re doing and realize that this is your life and no one else’s. You are meant to care and protect this life of yours. You are also meant to live this life to the fullest.

With kindness and love, live this life of yours before the gift is taken away. Everything comes to an end, and nothing is for sure that you’ll ever have another chance. And, even if you did, how sad that you let this one go unlived.

“Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we’re here we should dance.”

Truly Real

“If my heart could do the thinking, would my brain begin to feel?” ~ Van Morrison

I think sometimes we all make the mistake of thinking with our heads too much and not enough with our hearts. We analyze situations over and over until they don’t make sense anymore. We put too much energy in trying to figure out why someone did this or that to us, and we play the blame game constantly where there are never any winners.

If we could clear our minds and start thinking with our hearts can you imagine how wonderful and fresh the world would be? We wouldn’t be looking for problems to appear around every corner. We wouldn’t be in conflict with anyone, we would just be in bliss and flowing with life. Such balance would be ours for evermore.

This all sounds like a fairy tale. How could this be in a world so complicated that at times you just can’t see. Call me an optimist, but I believe with hard work and determination we can all change the way we think and feel. We can train our brains to use that compassion from our hearts and they can work together bringing us a peaceful, happy life, that is filled with love instead of fear and hate.

What is truly real? The darkness your mind is showing you, or the love you want to feel? What if you went with your heart this time instead of giving in to the conflict your head wants you to explore. Choose wisely my friend, for your happiness on this journey may very well depend.

Feel the Peace

Close your eyes

Breathe in

Breathe out

Take the weight off your shoulders and let your whole body relax as the stress comes rolling out.

Now, breathe in deep and let it all out once again. Can you feel the peace all around?

Let your mind go blank–you know it wants to, and now feel yourself connecting to your beautiful Spirit. Do you feel the peace surrounding you?

Let the stress of your life keep rolling off as you meander over calming waters and lush green gardens.

Be gentle with yourself. Life can never be so bad that you can’t take a little break from it all and just relax. Let everything just go as you connect with your higher self and feel the peace that is yours for evermore.

“When you own your breath, nobody can steal your peace.” ~ Author unknown

It’s Never Easy, But…

“No one said it would be easy.
And maybe that’s the problem!
Life is a lot easier when you stop
trying to make it so hard.”

“Just for today, be willing to let life
be easier than normal. Allow it to be so easy
that it surprises you and delights you.”

~ Robert Holden

“The greatest difficulty is the mental resistance to things that arise, and the underlying assumption that they should not.”

~ Eckhart Tolle

We have all had one of those days, weeks, etc. where we say “Really?” how can things get so crazy and out of hand? It just happens. But I have found that if I just relax and breathe for a moment, and maybe even meditate for a few minutes, things in my life just don’t seem so bad. My final step is to surrender. I mean, some things you just don’t have any control over, so let it go, and flow.

Life is always going to have ups and downs, but you don’t have to feel like a yo-yo. Take a stand to keep it simple even when it’s not. Don’t let yourself feed into the drama that life is presenting to you. Your reaction is not going to change a thing, but you will feel a lot better and be happier if you don’t get all uptight and crazy.

It’s true that life is certainly more complicated than it was ten, twenty years ago, but that is more reason to learn how to go with it and not fight all the time. A change in our attitude and our expectations help to make life easier.

So don’t say, “Why me?”  Say, “Oh, hell, why not? I’m not going to let it bite me!” Stay the happiness course by not letting anything come between and steal it away. Stay present, keep it simple, and keep laughing.

Give Flight to Hurt

Sometimes the pain of hurt is more than you can bear.

It lies within your very soul ripping it to shreds.

The only way to lessen its hold is to accept its presence and then, let it go.

Visualize:

Put this hurt on the back of a majestic mystical bird.

Majestic one, just take flight.

Fly far, far, away across the open sea.

And then drop that hurt into the deep violent waters of this massive sea.

Hurt will sink deeper and deeper, finding its way to the darkest parts of the ocean abyss.

And there it will remain forever more.

Give flight to all your hurts and then take a deep breath of relief.
Now, it is time to live your life once again.

This Will Be the Day

This will be the day that you will finally forgive. You’ll forgive those that have hurt you deeply.

You will forgive yourself for all the things you’ve done wrong, but most importantly, for keeping yourself in the mode of unforgiving.

Yes, at last, this will be the day that you’re set free from the chains that have imprisoned you for far too long.

You will simply let it all go and be free to live your life.

“Forgiveness gives you wings. Make this your affirmation today: ‘Every time I forgive someone, it sets me free.’” ~ Robert Holden

And to feel free is what we all need to reach our full potential, and live full lives.

Make today the day you finally FORGIVE.
