Moods can be good and they can be super bad. We all get into funky bad moods from time to time, but the important thing is to get ourselves out as quickly as possible. Life is stressful at times and we can end up going down a dark rabbit hole if we are not careful. When I saw this quote by Eckhart Tolle I thought, yes, this is what I need to do to get out of a mood that really isn’t me and one I’ve been entertaining for a few days too many.

I know from experience that practicing gratitude, and thinking about all the good that is already in your life does bring about abundance at least in the way you feel about yourself and your life. So does getting in touch with nature. It’s the sweet little things in life that bring us the most joy, but most of the time we are too busy chasing our tails to notice.

Try squishing your toes in the wet sand and feel carefree. The beach always does it for me, but if that’s not possible, go outside when it’s dark and look up at the sky letting the stars fill your eyes. Everything seems so small and petty when you look up at the night sky. Play with water in the ocean, pool, and even in the sink and let it delight you. There is something about water that does it for me. Smell the flowers in the garden and become renewed. And if you can, get into a car with a convertible top, and put that sucker down letting your hair blow wherever as you drive. All of this and so much more can remind you that yes, you are alive, and should be enjoying every second of your life. Well, maybe not every second, but most of your time on this earth.

Don’t let life get you down. Focus, be mindful, and spend more time loving being alive than in a funky bad mood.

Who Are You?

Have you ever looked into the mirror and wondered who is that person looking back at you? Having never seen herself before, my little cat friend thought it was another cat she was seeing and took issue with her reflection by hissing and having a terrible time. Well, you might not go that far, but do you know who you are?

Plenty of people will tell you who you are, but it’s best not to listen to them. The quote by Adella Gonzalez says it all because once you get to know yourself there’s no stopping what you can do with your life.

When we’re trying to find ourselves, we feel so lost; an alien on this planet. Sometimes even like failures. We don’t know where we’re going and certainly not happy about where we’ve been. Everything about us just seems wrong. That’s a terrible way to live and a big waste of time.

You can’t find yourself in someone else. No one can complete you … only you have the power to do that. Sometimes people get married and have children to fill that void of not knowing who they are. And maybe for a while it works. But life is always in flux. People come in and out of your life. Divorce, death, and children grow up and away. One day you’ll find yourself alone with the stranger that is you.

Look into the mirror and accept what you see. The bad, the good, the ugly. All the parts that are you. Allow yourself to grow and learn, but be kind to yourself when you fail because fail you will. Some humans are smarter, funnier, and better looking than you, but so what? They are not you, so stop comparing yourself to them. Practice kindness and gratitude to bring out the deep beauty that lives inside your Spirit.

Embrace this person who is you for there is no other like you.

Adrift but Strong

Sometimes I have been adrift at sea and feeling alone much like the tiny picture above of the lighthouse. But just like the lighthouse, I am also strong, more than I realize, and able to carry on guiding myself and trying to help others along the path of this journey. I’m sure many of you also feel this way.

Everything that we have done and experienced has brought us to the point we find ourselves in right now. We learn along the way, sometimes falling and ending up with banged up knees and deep bruises that no one can see. But it’s these things we’ve been through that have shaped us into the beings we are now and will carry us on into the beings we’ll become.

Don’t let those times when you’re feeling adrift at sea and so alone freeze and depress you. Instead, let yourself flow forward into the next installment of your journey. You are strong. You are brave. Take the knowledge that you have– the bad and the good to the next level of your life and live with no regrets. Thrive and embrace your life because as far as we know, this is the only life we’re going to get. Make it special; make it count.

Evolving

Why do we act negatively, sometimes even to the point of sabotaging ourselves? I think it has something to do with primitive survival. I think when we are having a difference of opinion with someone, or even an argument, our brains go back to primitive times when opposition meant it was time for survival mode to kick in. I also think that’s why we have the ego. It’s there to protect us, letting us know we are being treated badly and need to do something about it. We really don’t need the ego anymore because it gets us into a lot of trouble with all its bad chatter that fill our brains.

We need to evolve a little more and start thinking with our hearts and not the mind so much. We don’t have to take a disagreement and make it all out war. Sadly, I’ve seen and also have experienced some of this behavior in action. It happens in jobs, with friends, neighbors and the absolute worst: Families. It has caused marriages to end, siblings to stop speaking to one another, and grown children to turn against their parents. And I realize that this primitive thinking can get very extreme resulting in physical, mental, abuse and even murder.

This primitive survival mode causes so much miscommunication that nobody even knows what they are mad about anymore. They just know they’re mad and it’s the other person’s fault. The book is closed, everybody’s life goes on–still mad of course, and then one of the parties dies and sometimes a different perspective arrives, but it’s too late.

Practicing thinking with our heart, our Spirit, will make us all calm down and really listen to each other with open minds instead of thinking how mad this makes us feel. We might not always agree, but we can agree to disagree in harmony, and accept the right of others to have a different opinion. Respect, kindness, and love come from thinking with the heart, and that’s evolving.

Deadly Companions

Sometimes we fear the things we don’t understand.

And, we start to hate the things we fear.

Then greed walks in and grabs everything in sight.

When we fear something that maybe we shouldn’t, it means we need to educate ourselves about it. Learning why we feel the fear toward something or even someone might not make us agree and like it, but it will give us the information we need to open our minds and perhaps our hearts and try to see and comprehend what we feel in a different light. We can knock out fear by facing it and learning everything about it.

Hate is never the answer to anything. It’s just the lazy way to put a bandage on anything we don’t want to face and certainly try to understand. Hate makes us do and become the worst and ugly part of ourselves. It’s the mind gone mad because the heart is in a coma.

When I think of greed I see a child stuffing his mouth so full that his cheeks are ready to burst. Greed is a weird thing. If you mix it with fear and hate it becomes a dangerous cocktail so destructive that it produces wars and genocide.

If we are to survive as a species, we must get rid of these deadly companions. We need to open our minds to new possibilities and ways of thinking. We can learn to replace these things with acceptance and maybe even love. We must endeavor to become more enlightened.
