Grudges

“Don’t carry a grudge. While you’re carrying the grudge the other guy’s out dancing.” ~ Buddy Hackett

We’ve all experienced having a grudge or two. Sometimes it really eats away at you. And, when you think about it, what a waste of your precious time. As we have all learned during this pandemic, time is so very precious.

Experiencing resentment can happen so easily at work, with friends, neighbors, and especially with family. I would say it’s better to have a sit down with the person or persons who you’re having a problem with and talk it out, but I know better because I have experienced how that can go so horribly wrong. Egos at war can really make a mess.

Depending on the people you’re dealing with, you might be able to talk problems through, but for those times that it would make things worse, I suggest writing a letter for your eyes only and let it all out how you feel. Read it a few times, and really analyze how you feel and maybe where you might have played a role too. Then throw the letter away and move on with your life.

Holding grudges will make you sick and it never changes anything.

Take a deep breath. Feel vindicated and let it all go.

“In the end these things matter most: How well did you love? How fully did you live? How deeply did you let go?” ~ Jack Kornfield

The Goodness of Humans

“I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.” ~ Mother Teresa

Sometimes we humans are mean, greedy and petty, with a penchant for violence. But when a catastrophe comes along such as Mother Nature being unhinged, we all come together in a beautiful union.

Calamity brings out the best in us. It brings out our true Spirits of love and caring humans here on this planet to help one another. This is a good thing because in times of disaster we certainly need to join forces for survival.

We are in survival everyday on this planet; we just don’t know it. Our Earth could be wiped out in a second. So instead of raising fists, or guns into the air, or being right or left, or actually thinking we are better than our neighbor because of skin color etc., how about coming together as one making life good for all.

Think of all the good things we could do if we took all that negative energy that’s fueled by the fear of losing who we think we are and turned it around to all things positive. If we came together the way we do when disaster comes a knocking, think of all we could accomplish in our world.

There is so much goodness in humans. We just need to grow up, get over ourselves and let it flow out.  We need to finally learn the lessons of life.

“The idea of karma is that you continually get the teachings that you need to open your heart.” ~ Pema Chodron

The Sweet Spot

“The place between your comfort zone and your dream is where life takes place.” ~ Helen Keller

Life can sometimes become so hectic even crazy that we can begin to feel we’re not really living, just existing like shadows of our former selves. When this happens we need to start living between the spaces of our life.

There is a space between the situation that is happening, or one we fear is going to happen, and how we are reacting to it. That space between the two is the stillness and the balance where we should be living. It’s the place to be when life gets out of control and we start stressing.

“When you let go, you create space for better things to enter into your life.” ~ Steve Maraboli

When we’re not trying to live in that chaotic zone of our life, we are better able to move forward and have the life we really want. We become more creative, joyful, and feel gratitude for life.

When feeling stressed try closing your eyes. Now take a deep breath through your nose and exhale softly through your mouth. Visualize the problem. See your negative reaction to the problem. Imagine a large space between the two. See yourself going into that space and feel the calm and balance washing over you. This is your sweet spot where your life is meant to be lived.

“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response, lies our growth and our freedom.”

~ Viktor Frankl, Auschwitz survivor

Find that power and start living a more balanced and happy life.

Hurt

“The ego says, ‘I shouldn’t have to suffer,’ and that thought makes you suffer so much more. The truth is that you need to say yes to suffering before you can transcend it.” ~ Eckhart Tolle

We humans are fragile but at the same time strong beings. We get into trouble when our egos get hurt. We all want to be loved and accepted and when we’re not we feel not only hurt but sometimes anger.

Hurt can cause us to become selfish as we start to close down to everyone around us. We can become consumed with our own feelings of rejection that we become unable to love or accept love.

Never let yourself be so blinded by your own pain that you can’t see and feel the pain you have caused others.

“Love the heart that hurts you, but never hurt the heart that loves you.”  ~ Vipin Sharma

The quote by Sharma makes sense when someone you love does something to hurt you. Perhaps they really didn’t mean it, but it still hurts.

Feelings of hurt are just part of our journey and the best thing to do is let yourself feel it then let it go. Don’t ever let hurt stick to you. Use it as another lesson on your journey.

“Feel the feeling and drop the story.” ~ Pema Chodron

Flowing Clouds

my clouds

“Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky.”

~ Rabindranath Tagore

Clouds are constantly changing, and so is our life. The secret is knowing how to flow with change. The way to flow is to live in the moments of life, and live in them fully. No second guessing and no looking back at mistakes or what could have been.  Our past is full of lessons learned, and some very painful. We also can’t predict the future, because like the clouds, it is always changing shape.

Learn to give to yourself as much as you give to others. Never let yourself become depleted. People will come and go but you will remain until the end. Believe and invest in yourself as you flow as free as the clouds.

“It is better to have your head in the clouds, and know where you are… than to breathe the clearer atmosphere below them, and think that you are in paradise.”

~ Henry David Thoreau

It’s Time

Renewal

Yes, it’s time for Peace.

“When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know Peace.” ~ Jimi Hendrix

But peace won’t come until real Change starts to happen, and we can actually feel and see it taking shape.

“You have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.”
~ Harriet Tubman

Something will still be missing for peace to come and that is Healing.

“There is force in the universe, which if we permit it, will flow through us and produce miraculous results.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

This force is the Healing we and our planet so need before peace will come.

Change, Healing, Peace. This will be hard for some because it’s a different way of thinking and living.

Start by emptying all the misinformation stuck in the brain that has been passed on from generation to generation. Look at life with a new perspective. Practice forgiveness, acceptance and humility. Open the door and let love in to banish hate for good. And get rid of fear. Many times when we don’t understand something or someone we fear it and pass on negative judgments.

Just like the picture of the flowering strawberries above, we too are ready for renewal that will lead us to Peace. So let’s begin.

Get Over It

“Whatever we can’t love or accept in another, is a mirror of something we can’t love or accept in ourselves.”
~ Brenda Shoshanna

It’s 2020 and some of us still have trouble getting along and accepting one another no matter what color our skin or what religion we happen to be. Really? It’s getting exhausting don’t you think? It’s not rocket science that we humans all have a right to be on planet Earth, along with all the other beings.

We humans are supposed to be the guardians of our planet, but how are we supposed to do that if we can’t even care for one another? There is no superior race; we are the human race, simple as that. There is no right or superior religion. Everyone should believe, or not believe whatever they want. No one has all the right answers, or for that matter, any answers. In truth, we are all just trying to figure it out.

Whatever pompous reason some think they have to hate and not trust, or causes some to feel they are better, just stop it. I say, try opening your arms and be accepting for all our beautiful differences. Diversity rocks, and we need one another to survive.

“We are all a little weird and life’s a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.”
~ Dr. Seuss

If this is what it takes, then let’s all be a little weird, and get over it and live in peace.

Who Will You Be?

a9

“When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what the storm’s all about.”

~ Haruki Murakami

This pandemic has been our storm, and I wonder who I will be when it’s over.

Who will you be?  You have learned to go without certain essentials, making do with what’s available. Some of you have paid a heavy price in losing loved ones, businesses and jobs.

Do you think about and cherish the people in your life so much more, and have become patient and less judgmental toward others? Aren’t you just so grateful for each and every breath you take and think about the importance of caring for yourself, instead of always being at war?

If going through darkness changes a person for the good then it can’t be all bad. We should all be looking at our life and life in general in an improved way. No fear should reside within us. We are pioneers in a brave new world, learning to do things differently, and hopefully better. Let’s not forget about this planet. How we care for our Earth and its beings will come back to us, and maybe already has not in a good way. This pandemic might be a big warning to get our act together.

So … Who will you be? For me, I just hope that I’m a better human.

“Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.” ~ Rumi

Hope

“Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul and sings the tunes without the words and never stops at all.”

~ Emily Dickinson

Never lose your belief in the hope of a future filled with possibilities, but at the same time, keep your eye centered on the present. The present is where dreams are made into reality.

Mindfulness in Uncertainty

sky 23

Mindfulness brings us to this very moment which is all we truly ever have. We can’t live in the past or the future. One is gone and one is always full of uncertainty. As humans we do like going into the past and feeling the pain so we can figure things out. And we love planning for the future. But all those things are a waste of time because we are only living in the now, and that’s the way it’s always been, not just because we are in a pandemic.

We shouldn’t feel fear and unbalanced with the uncertainty of our future because nothing really has changed. Our future has always been uncertain. And life is always in flux. And that can be good even if it doesn’t seem so at the time. We just never know what exciting thing is waiting around the corner for us.

“When nothing is sure, everything is possible.”
~ Margaret Atwood

Mindfulness is empowering because we learn to flow and not fight what is; bad or good. We see things the way they are and we’re not afraid anymore.

“To think in terms of either pessimism or optimism oversimplifies the truth. The problem is to see reality as it is.”
~ Thich Nhat Hanh

Pay attention to all that surrounds you. Don’t fear the unknown, but embrace it instead. Have no expectations. Just open your arms and breathe in the life all around you.

“Uncertainty is the fertile ground of creativity and freedom.”
~ Deepak Chopra

By being mindful and living with uncertainty anything in life is possible. Mindfulness and uncertainty are a gift of freedom in our life.

“Mindfulness is a way of befriending ourselves and our experience.”
~ Jon-Kabat-Zinn
