Be the Peace in Your World

With so much aggression and turmoil in this world, try and practice peace everyday in your world.  If you can’t smooth that frown away and replace it with a smile, at least try and keep your anger down the best you can. Hard to do when you are not having a good day and feeling upset, but so important.

We can’t control what happens in the world, but we can control how it affects us, and not be adding more hostility loose in this world. Also, if we get depressed or angry we have allowed that turmoil and the aggression going on to enter what should be our peaceful kingdom. Pema Chodron says we should ask ourselves, “Am I going to practice peace, or am I going to war?”  If we don’t practice that peace we will be going to war with someone, maybe even ourselves.

Try always to stay present. Look for the beauty and goodness in nature, in things, and the people all around. We don’t have to agree on everything, but we should be accepting of our differences. Diversity is a good thing, and should not be something to fear. We add our aggression into the overflowing angry world by not being peaceful in ours. We all control what we put out.

Richard Carlson wrote a book called, Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff … and It’s All Small Stuff. I have found this to be so true. In the past, most of the things I got angry about were just silly stuff that if given a few hours or a day I would have figured it out instead of acting out.

Remember, each peaceful thought that all of us can have will bring balance to our currently unbalanced world.

  1. The day I faced death dear lady it all didn’t mean a thing. When I got past it there was this silence within me, I could hear a pin drop. Simply because that ‘stuff’ just truly wasn’t worth it. And it is still quiet within, I thought life would slowly creep back in…but I’ve crossed a line…and I have to say it is very beautiful as without all that ‘noise’ I can now see things that I couldn’t before…because of that noise. Great post dear lady, may your noise be only butterflies wings too ❤️ 🙏🏽 🦋

  2. Beautiful and profound post on Peace, Michele. We have to let go of petty things and complaining and blame if we want peace in our lives. Pema is an inspiration for so many of us. I have heard her speaking on every subject and she is amazing.

I go to war a lot, mostly with myself, but sometimes with others. I have this overarching sense of equity that I guess I feel I have to shove down people’s throats and since the world is completely inequitable now, my reactionary behavior is worse than ever. Sometimes I swear that if I see another housing development being built on the most fertile unirrigated farmland in the country I’m going to lose it, but then I take a deep breath and try to remember that my reaction is worse than all of it. Thanks for the reminder, Michele. xox

    • I so understand what you’re saying Pam. I have spent many years going to war with mostly myself but others too, and it got me no where. I’m not saying it’s easy, but I practice every day peaceful thoughts and actions. I have had to live along side neighbors that have absurd crazy ideas and just realize they are simple minded and feel sorry that they can’t see the big picture, and hope their numbers don’t increase. And a crazy local county government that just keeps building on every inch of land they can, plus thinking that the fourth of July should be a war zone even though most want it to stop. I take lots of deep breaths too, lol. xo

Such a beautiful post, sweet Michele. ♥ I agree wholeheartedly with you. We must protect our peace. Sometimes that even means we must make some hard decisions about letting go of people or places in our lives that continue to breed negativity and drama. Our peace is a precious treasure not to be taken for granted. It reminds me of the Scripture from Proverbs 4:23, “Guard your heart more than anything else, because the source of your life flows from it.”

I adore what you said here: “In the past, most of the things I got angry about were just silly stuff that if given a few hours or a day I would have figured it out instead of acting out.” —- Isn’t it amazing how much wisdom we gain just by holding our tongues, quieting our anger, and allowing some emotional distance to occur? In the moment everything feels so firey but just a small amount of time can change our perspective entirely.

You’re absolutely right my friend. We have the power to release peace into a world that desperately needs hope. Even just the power of smiling at someone can change their entire day.

Thank you for this precious reminder. You’re a blessing! ♥ Sending love to you & yours in hopes that your week ahead is extra special!
