“If there was one life skill everyone on the planet needed, it was the ability to think with critical objectivity.”
~ Henry David Thoreau
I believe that the inability of critical thinking is the root cause of prejudice. If we would simply ask ourselves “Why” we feel the way we do toward others, we would be surprised to find that it is based on fear, preconceived ideas, our parents opinions, and the entire tribe that surrounds us.
Being too comfortable in our views and resisting stretching our minds to go beyond what we were taught will keep us closed-minded to the truths that stand before us.
If humans are to survive then we must change, and the first step is to ask “Why.”
“Too often we… enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.” ~ John F. Kennedy
Great quote.
Hope all is well with you.

Beautiful said Michele, and I especially love the words of John F. Kennedy, truer words have never been spoken. Great post. And more beautifully I hear your voice, it has been quiet for a while. Love and light to you dear lady, may it hug your journey whatever it may be 😀 ❤️ 🙏🏽 🦋

Powerful words by John F. Kennedy for sure. Thank you Mark for your lovely words. So many disturbing things have been going on here in America that I just haven’t been inspired to write. The pandemic is enough without all the unrest here. Take care my friend.

Brilliant and inspiring post, Michele. Yes we have to question ourselves and ask Why every minute of our lives.

You are always welcome dear Michele. Yes absolutely true but people will be people in all their imperfections and positivity so why get into all this and feel upset. Life is like that. God says you take care of yourself I know what I am doing.

Couldn’t agree more, Michele. Without critical thinking skills, people end up in the wrong places — like cults — because they just don’t get that something’s off. Maybe now that we’re in the age of Aquarius that might change??

Such a powerful post, Michele! That Kennedy quote is spot on to me. It’s true, people really do fail to think for themselves. My humble opinion is that much of the news is dangerous for this very reason. So much of what we hear are opinions slanted to suit their narrative versus actual fact. When we believe the opinion is ‘fact,’ we literally believe a lie. The problem is if we believe it’s true; we’ll act like it’s true. Our outward behaviors always reflect an internal belief.
This is such a striking statement: “If we would simply ask ourselves “Why” we feel the way we do toward others, we would be surprised to find that it is based on fear, preconceived ideas, our parents opinions, and the entire tribe that surrounds us.” —- Yes! You’re 100% right! A lot of people, including myself at one time in my life, were afraid to ask “why” because then we must face some uncomfortable truths.
Growth may hurt but it is vital to our personal lives, our relationships, our well-being, and our world as a whole. I join you in hoping that someday people will begin to ask “why” and allow change to happen in their hearts and minds.
Sending my love to you, sweet friend. You’re loved! ♥

I love what you’ve said about growth, Holly. It’s so true that it might and usually does hurt but is so vital in our lives. I grew up in a family where you couldn’t question anything and so got into trouble many times questioning, but I always had to. Thank you for your wonderful comments, and the love you always send out.
