“Don’t carry a grudge. While you’re carrying the grudge the other guy’s out dancing.” ~ Buddy Hackett
We’ve all experienced having a grudge or two. Sometimes it really eats away at you. And, when you think about it, what a waste of your precious time. As we have all learned during this pandemic, time is so very precious.
Experiencing resentment can happen so easily at work, with friends, neighbors, and especially with family. I would say it’s better to have a sit down with the person or persons who you’re having a problem with and talk it out, but I know better because I have experienced how that can go so horribly wrong. Egos at war can really make a mess.
Depending on the people you’re dealing with, you might be able to talk problems through, but for those times that it would make things worse, I suggest writing a letter for your eyes only and let it all out how you feel. Read it a few times, and really analyze how you feel and maybe where you might have played a role too. Then throw the letter away and move on with your life.
Holding grudges will make you sick and it never changes anything.
Take a deep breath. Feel vindicated and let it all go.
“In the end these things matter most: How well did you love? How fully did you live? How deeply did you let go?” ~ Jack Kornfield
Very wise words Michele, a great post. It is only when we understand us do we finally ‘see’. And then we can truly live…and it had nothing to do with the other person…they were only there to start that look of love within 😀 ❤️ 🙏🏼 🦋

Thank you Mark 🙂 I agree, it’s always a good idea to look deep within ourselves and discover what’s really going on in relationships of any kind. We might be surprised of what we find.

Writing a letter to yourself is a great way to vent and get all that anger out. Thank you Kellie.

I’ve known people who never met a grudge they didn’t like, Michele, and I’ve watched it ruin them. So great advice. ;0)

Me too Pam. I’ve known, and still know way too many. Life’s just too short for holding on to grudges. I’d rather be free. 🙂

Too true….Like drinking poison and expecting the other person to get sick….it always feels so much better to let go. Love the letter idea and the jack Kornfield quote.

It just hurts only you holding on to those grudges. It may be hard at first to let go, but you’re right Michelle, it does feel so much better to let it go.

Beautifully and so inspiring post, Michele. Grudges are the worst thing that we can keep for someone it only pulls us down. Instead being happy and kind towards all is the reality.

Thank you Kamal. Grudges do pull us down and take away our joy. And life is just too short for that.

You are always welcome dear Michele. Yes grudges pull us down and life is so short why not enjoy what we have.

Great advice Michele. 💕 When I write a letter, it often helps me see the issue differently. It’s such a helpful practice for us to find balance again.

Seems your readers agree, writing a letter to express unresolved feelings is a good idea, an effective practice, which can become a regular ritual.
Thought I share – to make it even more meaningful, the letter could be given to an element one feels in resonance with – like ripping the letter up and letting the bits sail away on a windy day, releasing the bits into a flowing river, burying them in the earth as compost, or burning.

Hi Ashen 🙂 Those are all great ideas. I say whatever works without hurting anyone go for it and set yourself free.
