Filling Dreams

“Start working to fulfill your dreams, otherwise some day someone will put you in work to fulfill their dreams.”   Author Unknown

Fulfill your dreams before attempting to fulfill others.’ It’s not being selfish–it’s nurturing self, and will lead you to become a more selfless person.  If you let yourself get too caught up in everyone else’s drama, or simply get so involved in helping other people find their way, you will lose and rob yourself of the very reason you are here.

Give yourself time to grow, travel, and experience life before you saddle yourself with too many responsibilities. This advice is especially for the young just starting out in life, and also empty-nesters trying to fulfill dreams put on hold so long ago. It’s never too late.

If you don’t give yourself the gift of fulfilling your dreams, I hope you realize that nobody around you ever will. And if you don’t try you will end up a bitter and angry soul with a life not lived.

Remember, if you are good to yourself you will be a happier and kinder person to all those you care about.

The other day, a friend who I met in a writing group some 20 years ago reconnected with me. He said, “Congratulations. You’re one of the few who stuck with it.” He was referring, of course, to the fact that I have two books out and am working on a third, that I had kept going when mostly all of the rest of us in those original groups had quit. He himself became a book reviewer in his spare time (he’s also a lawyer) and now that he’s retired is closing in on his millionth word or some such crazy number. And people are paying him for his reviews. So while he didn’t became the NYT bestselling author he set out to be, he made a name for himself elsewhere in the writing realm. And while I haven’t had that kind of success in writing — yet — I’m still climbing the mountain, learning something new every day from friends, blogs (like yours), mentors, etc., and it’s likely I will keep going even after I’ve reached the next level because that’s just how I do it. I know not everyone is like me, but it sure is gratifying to identify something you want and then go for it. Thanks for this lovely post, Michele. Happy Saturday. xo

  6. Oh, wow! What wonderful comments Pam. I just love your sharing 🙂 I agree with everything you have said here. It is very gratifying, and as you have said, to identify what you want and go for it even if the results are not what you had hoped for. I think for writers, and where writing is concerned, it’s something that is built inside of us and we just have to do it; otherwise, we feel something is missing in our life–at least that’s how it is for me. Through failure after failure, I just keep going. I think for the first time in my life I’m enjoying the journey and not hung up on where my writing will end up. Thank you for enjoying my blog and all your loving support. Have a great Saturday too. xo

    • It’s hard when you have a family and so many responsibilities. I remember so well, but I also remember losing myself in my family and that certainly wasn’t good for anyone. I wish that I would have put myself first because in the long run everyone would have been happier and I would have created a more balance life for all.

Oooh, all I could think was ‘this is me’ sometimes. Sometimes I think my life’s disappearing and I’m not living, not taking the chances and investing the efforts into what’s important to me. Such a poignant, encouraging post, Thank you so much for sharing, Michele 🙂

    • Thank you Caz, and for being the inspiring person that you are. You and your story inspire me everyday. Grab life with both hands and don’t ever let anyone, or anything stop you from living the life that you dream. It’s there for you; go grab it girl! xo

Wonderful post! All I might add is that if you want to fulfil your dream, make a plan to do it. At least plan to take the first step. A dream without a plan is really just a wish.

Yup. Same goes for everything. I kinda look at it as a cup – in 2 ways. Either you have to have the water in the cup to be able to pour it out. Or you have to have solidified the cup (healed the cracks) to keep water in.
