Treasure Box

“Wake up every morning with the thought something wonderful is about to happen.” ~ Author Unknown

While house sitting for my daughter, I awoke one morning to the sun streaming through the bedroom window and a warm furry body that was wrapped around my legs purring. I stirred enjoying waking up this way and my movement sent a signal to the gentle giant sleeping on the floor at the foot of the bed. Loud, and fast, this Lab/Dane mix made his way to where my head was peeking out from the covers. Nuzzling me very insistently, there was no way of escaping his excitement that yes, indeed, I was awake and a new day was waiting eagerly for us. I laughed as I thought to myself, “What a wonderful way to begin a day!”

Maybe your day begins with the pitter-patter of tiny feet in footed pjs making its way down the hallway to the warmth of your bed for morning cuddle time. Oh, that sweet smell of childhood, and uncomplicated innocent love. Now, that’s the way to start a day!

Unless I’m house sitting for my daughter, my mornings usually start with the wonderful smell of coffee brewing; sometimes birds chirping, and if I’m lucky, the sun beaming through the curtains. But even if it’s a gray or rainy day, I’m excited to get up and see what is in store for me. Every day presents a treasure box to find and open up, discovering the wonders of life, and all you can learn and try to be.

It doesn’t matter how you wake up to your day. It only matters that like my furry friends, or the curiosity of a child, you too want to get up and start your day ready for the adventure.

This is truly living and embracing your life, and just maybe what life is about. Don’t ever give up on yourself and think there’s no use in living. Your dark days will pass, they always do, and soon the light will appear once again. And when it does, bathe in it, believe in it, and look for your treasure box each and every day.

  1. My day started out at 2am…a nice man on holidays from the units next door came home from his night out whistling merrily. I thought to myself he could have been rambling, or swearing at the world or even kicking the garbage cans (ok, they’re plastic 😀 )…so I decided it was a good thing as I got out of bed and went to look at the stars…and you know what? at that hour of the morning they are all in a different position and soooo bright…it was a wonderful view 😀
So I started my day out from a whole new perspective…and after I slept in till 8am 😀 ❤
Great post Michele, I think surprises are there for us all, treasures abounding ❤

    • Oh, I love your story, Mark! Some people would have been upset with this man whistling so early in the morning, and it would have started their day off badly. But you saw something else and embraced the day full of wonder. It gave you an opportunity to connect with your world in a way that might never have happened except for that happy gentleman. Love, love, your comments 🙂

  8. I wake up before everyone in the house, and appreciate the solitude. But then a little later, I get to wake my children up and experience the feeling you describe in your post.

  9. I think the best thing to wake up to at my age is optimism. It sounds like you already found it!

  10. Your positivity is so inspiring Michele! I don’t think it’s possible to wake up every single day feeling positive as life for a lot of people can be challenging, but I love your last paragraph before the quote which is empathetic and compassionate.:)

    • Thank you so much Marie 🙂 I agree that it can be hard waking up everyday with a positive attitude, but we should strive for it. Sometimes life can get hard and be a real challenge–as you mentioned it is for many people. It’s the little things in life that bring us joy and help us to overcome the pain we are in. I’ve known dark days in my life, and so the last paragraph is especially for those thinking about giving up and calling it quits.
